Whoever Gives Away Their Life Saves It

Matthew 8:27-38

We have but one life; and we are advised to make the very best of the precious life we have, so we pursue relationships, wealth, status, experiences, and even religion in an effort to “live our best lives” and maximize our time on this planet… But it doesn’t work. Despite our best efforts, we remain confused, sad, and exhausted; so we redouble our efforts, cutting toxic ties and adding exercise or whatever else we can to be fulfilled. But what if adding things to our lives isn’t how to make them valuable? Some 2000 years ago, Jesus called a few brave men to “follow Him,” and they did. Leaving behind their jobs and homes, they learned a new way of life from the author of life itself because “Whoever wants to save their life must lose it, but whoever loses their life for the Gospel will save it.”
