THINK ON THIS:

The Hebrew word חֶסֶד hesed appears 251 times in 241 verses within the Old Testament. Often it is translated as lovingkindness indicating mercy, kindness, and goodness. It depicts the idea of active love; love displayed and poured out from one for the benefit of another. Most often it is specifically describing God’s great love poured out onto his people for their benefit. It is something unearned by the lesser (humanity) yet freely extended by the greater (God).

Hesed is not only the why of God, but a central value of God. It is because of His hesed God chose not to leave man floundering around in this world wondering what is good and bad. In God’s hesed, He chose to reveal Himself not only in what has been made (creation), but through the historical record of His interaction with mankind (the Bible), and ultimately as the Son of God, Jesus the Christ.

REFLECT:

• Purchase an inexpensive notebook, a journal, or simply create a “Note” page on your cell phone. Allow this to be a hesed journal, a gratitude list. Begin writing down how God has displayed His hesed in our life. As you continue, be looking for moments of God displaying his lovingkindness in your corner of the world. As you recognize these moments, add to your journal. By doing this you will intentionally be looking for but fully recognize equally God in the big and the small, yet meaningful, moments of your adventure—your life.
• Within your sphere of influence, who do you see today that needs lovingkindness? It may be a spouse, a child, a sibling, a friend… it could even be the young man or lady scanning and bagging your groceries. Actively pursue moments to share and be a steward of the hesed.

La palabra hebrea חֶסֶד hesed aparece 251 veces en 241 versículos del Antiguo Testamento. A menudo se traduce como bondad amorosa que indica “bondad amorosa”. Representa la idea del amor activo; amor mostrado y derramado de uno para el beneficio de otro. La mayoría de las veces describe específicamente el gran amor de Dios derramado sobre su pueblo para su beneficio. Es algo no ganado por la humanidad, pero extendido libremente por Dios.

Hesed no es solo el por qué de Dios, sino un valor central de Dios. Es por Su hesed que Dios eligió no dejar al hombre tambaleándose en este mundo preguntándose qué es bueno y qué es malo. En el hesed de Dios, Él eligió revelarse a Sí mismo no solo en lo que ha sido hecho (creación), sino a través del registro histórico de Su interacción con la humanidad (la Biblia) y, en última instancia, como el Hijo de Dios, Jesús el Cristo.

REFLEJAR:

• Compre un cuaderno, un diario o simplemente cree una página de “Notas” en su teléfono celular. Permita que esto sea un diario hesed, una lista de gratitud. Comience a escribir cómo Dios ha mostrado Su hesed en nuestra vida. A medida que continúe, busque momentos en los que Dios muestre su amorosa bondad en su rincón del mundo. A medida que reconozcas estos momentos, agrégalos a tu diario. Al hacer esto, buscará intencionalmente, pero reconocerá por igual a Dios en los momentos grandes y pequeños, pero significativos, de su aventura: su vida.
• Dentro de tu grupo de influencia, ¿a quién ves hoy que necesita misericordia? Puede ser un cónyuge, un hijo, un hermano, un amigo… incluso podría ser el joven o la dama escaneando y empacando sus compras. Busque activamente momentos para compartir y sea un mayordomo del hesed.
